Structural Analysis

Structural analysis is one of the aspects in engineering that is common to most of the engineering disciplines and can relate to the analysis of a building, the ground it is founded on, a mechanical component, an electronic board, housing or even a furnace for creating steel.

Structural analysis generally refers to the evaluation of structural behaviour of the structure or part in consideration due to external loads acting on it. These loads can be in the form of forces and moments which result in stresses and deformations or be applied in the from of thermal loads, vibration loads, seismic loads, resonance, electrical or magnetic effects.

The end purpose is however the same in that we are interested in knowing whether or not the structure (or part) will be fit for its purpose and last throughout its intended design life.
