Like my brother-in-law said, I think we’re over the worst of the summer heat! Fortunately, the winter could not slow us down as this month was quite busy. We hosted the Moldex3D technology day on injection moulding simulation and this week Zak representing us at Hexagon Live in the USA, where he also spent time with various product development managers to give them your feedback and requirements for the products you use.
We are still waiting for all Zak’s feedback, despite receiving the occasional selfie, however, big news broke with Hexagon revealing a very important new product for their portfolio: Nexus.
Like what Microsoft Teams has done for the virtual office, Nexus promises to do for product development to enhance smart manufacturing, collaboration, innovation and integration of products and processes.
Our product of the month is CAEfatigue which recently received a lot of attention from our customer base with dedicated meetings and presentations from the hexagon team. If you are also interested, let us know.
Next on the events list is the MSC Apex Workshop on 29 June where we will dive deep into CAD-Clean-up and meshing, followed by the Marc workshop in July.
Our Users’ conference is also right around the corner, so don’t miss out and make sure to register asap!
The new product releases this month was Adams Tracked Vehicle, the complete Romax suite of products and Dytran. Read more below.
At SIMTEQ we have a passion for sharing knowledge and we are therefore proud of a new initiative in collaboration with university lecturers that we have started, to produce short 3D videos with which the students can interact to learn about certain engineering principals. Follow the links to this area on our website to see what we already delivered and feel free to contribute any ideas of your own. What took you too long to understand at university, which would not have been the case had it been better explained? Let us know, we’ll gladly add it.
If you will be travelling over the school holiday period, be safe out there and send us some warmer weather.
Moldex3D Tech-Day was a great success, and we would like to thank everyone who came out to the SIMTEQ offices and those who participated online. With special thanks to Larry Ren from CoreTech System and Steve Cooke from Cooke and Son Manufacturing for their great contributions.
This however is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the capabilities that CAEfatigue has to offer and some of the more advanced capabilities are:
One of the more recent additions to CAEfatigue that is not mentioned above is Robust Design.
Robust Design:
This new technology allows the user to re-run multiple MSC Nastran jobs consecutively while changing the input parameters for each run, the outputs from these runs are used to create a correlation map of input parameters vs. outputs. This shows what effect each of the inputs has on the outputs.
This allows the user to make better design decisions based on a holistic view of how the model reacts under all inputs.
Other interesting additions that are also noteworthy:
Automatic Generation of Load Scenario using Time Histories:
Various loading scenarios can be created automatically for a time-domain analysis, instead of having to create the loading scenarios manually. This automation will prevent errors from occurring and will speed up the analysis setup.
Multiaxial Stress Assement for Time Histories:
If the user is unsure which analysis method to use in CAEfatigue because the loading is proportional or disproportional, the new multiaxial assessment capability will allow the user to check the level of multiaxiality in the stress output. Based on the level of multiaxiality the user can decide if standard analysis methods or a more accurate critical plane approach should be used.
Composite Material Outputs from Nastran are Supported:
CAEfatigue can now import the stresses from a Nastran composite material analysis (using PCOMP or PCOMPG entries). This expands the interoperability of CAEfatigue with MSC Nastran output results.
To catch a ball is something that is innately built in to every human, however to translate that ability to a mechanical system is engineering at its finest, especially if it can be achieved with off the shelf components. This design by Johan Link is simplicity itself and shows what can be achieved with a properly tuned PID controller.
Nexus is Hexagon’s platform for smart manufacturing collaboration and innovation. Designed to scale to the needs of manufacturers, it provides an easy way to manage your Hexagon solutions, access training and support, find complementary technology, and leverage data from across your organisation to drive manufacturing innovation.
With new functionality regularly added, the Nexus platform will grow with you as you digitalise the product lifecycle from engineering to production and quality management. Begin your smart manufacturing journey with Nexus and see how you can:
